Daily Adventures: A Birthday Weekend Ending in Comedy

This weekend was quiet entertaining with a three-day birthday celebration. It was lots of fun.

On Friday, I took my sister to a Greek restaurant called Meli (highly recommended) for her pre-birthday celebration. We had pita bread, calamarigrilled chicken with seasoned baked potatoes and vegetables and let me not forget the glasses of champagne. Not to worry – we were taking public transportation, not driving.

Well, silly me accidentally deleted the pictures of our entrees. But, I did manage to save the following image. Weren’t the cooks sweet to put this on my sister’s dessert plate?

On Saturday, it was a more of an intimate family lunch to celebrate my sister’s big 40. She doesn’t look 40, right?!

After lunch, we spent the day shopping, shopping and more shopping. The birthday girl was one happy lady.

On Sunday, we ended the birthday celebration with Chris Tucker’s comedy show at

It was delightful to watch the witty actor of Rush Hour 1 through 3 on stage dressed to the nines I must add. Unfortunately, the attendees were prohibited from taking pictures.

Here’s a picture from Journal Sentinel Online depicting the funny man of the night. (Promo picture)

Chris knows how to throw a comedy show. He had us in tears – good tears of course. But, there were three individuals I observed throughout the evening who were unsatisfied with the material.

As you may know, comedy shows touch on a variety of topics including racism. If you are the sensitive type, comedy shows are not recommended. Some comments were hard to swallow, but it’s a show. It’s meant for us to have fun. The three individuals I mentioned above were obviously taking the black and white jokes to heart. They rarely laughed.

The young lady sitting nearby me was visibly uncomfortable when Chris poked fun of the African culture. The gentlemen sitting in front of the young lady maintained a bitter expression when he joked about Caucasians. I cannot repeat what was said because Chris was shooting jokes after jokes; it’s quiet the task to memorize everything. Nevertheless, the images of those three folks remains clear in my mind. They weren’t having any of it.

Look, comedy shows are meant to push the envelope. Do comedians go a little too far sometimes? Yes, they do. But in this particular case, Chris didn’t push the envelope. His jokes were based on real situations. If you can’t laugh at life, then what can you laugh at? He meant no harm. He maintained respect throughout his show.

Then, as my sister and I were about to leave, we took a glance around the place. We couldn’t believe the amount of alcohol consumed by people last night. The scary part is not the amount they consumed, but the fact that these people were getting to ready to drive. It was frightening. Sadly, if something terrible were to happen, it will happen to the passengers or innocent people. The drunk driver is not only putting himself at risk of danger, but a whole lot of  innocent people.

PLEASE don’t drink and drive. And don’t drink, text and drive.
